WAGES serves hundreds of women each year through co-op member trainings, peer leadership programs, and community workshops. Women who complete WAGES’ 100+ hour Co-op Founder Training or 50+ hour New Member Training programs become worker-owners in successful cooperative businesses. And the impact is powerful!
Every co-op member:
• Earns fair pay – household incomes have increased by more than 50%.
• Shares business profits – co-op equity is an asset for members’ families.
• Visits her doctors – the co-ops provide health insurance and other benefits.
• Protects the environment – 2000 Bay Area households use our green cleaning services each year.
Each woman who empowers herself shares the benefits with her family and her community, creating a ripple effect locally and beyond. Through community workshops, WAGES’ trainers and co-op members educate other Latinas about environmental issues and green cleaning. Women learn how to avoid toxic chemicals that can be harmful to them, their children and the earth. WAGES also provides advice and information to dozens of organizations every year. In 2009, we are consulting with three community partners that are developing green cleaning cooperatives inspired by our model. In the Bay Area, North Carolina and New York, a growing community of women are using WAGES’ model to increase their economic security and well-being.
